Sisters of 2 Mother

By: Cipher16

Whenever mother wasn't there
they console and hold each other close in fear,
of receiving meaningless beatings that seem endless
when this lady appears glassy eyed stares
and aggressive excessive grasping of the hair,
Dare to tear begging their bodies not to let their nostrils flare
knowing there are wire hangers on the stove waiting sare,
once radiant looks now resemble timid glares
wardrobes appear as winter or autumn all year,
Long sleeves and tissue packed pockets to stop the nosebleeds
heart filled with issues, kid games they did not play
so worried that sweat would smear their make-up and reveal guts full of hatred...
thoughts to despair,
notice as this pair dwindles emotionally detached
trying their hardest to rekindle their mental
the type of life no 11-year-olds should view,
Living arrangements drastic
suddenly becoming immune to being battered...
on the way to school the next day like nothing ever happened,
Bell rang around 3
as they grab their backpacks hoping when they reach home it is momma they see,
Momma was always good to Bri great to Tee...
Never wanted momma to leave,
As momma get dressed
the twins start getting depressed
as long as momma's around the twins get love and respect,
Then the lady appears
they immediately draw tears...
Run to the corner hit the floor in fetal position
it's been like this for the last few years,
Respect is not expected to receive peace and happiness
thoughts get ejected being fed mental poison...
By 13 never hesitant to let the boys in,
Momma overdosed never saw the pose
funeral home requested the coffin close
No feelings for this lady so no need to console,
She left them triple damaged
mind, body, and soul.

Another One of the Greats

By: Chinese Raccoon Dog

The Schomburg Center's founder Arturo Alfonso Schomburg was born in Puerto Rico on Jan. 24, 1874.  Schomburg, who came to New York in 1891, was a bibliophile, writer, and a key intellectual figure in the Harlem Renaissance.  He spent his life championing and preserving black history.  The New York public library purchased his vast collection in 1926.  The Schomburg Center is now home to more than 10 million items.

Happy Mothers' Day

 Happy Mothers Day

Dear Mom,

There's really no words to express to you on this very day how thankful I am for making me the strong man I am today.

From an infant 'til now, you fed me nothing but knowledge so sweet it'll decay anything in its way except my teeth.

So here on this very special day I would like to grant you the golden #1 Mom award, that no money in this world can afford.

I think back...I did the craziest things when I was bored, but you definitely found many ways to use that extension cord (smile).

See you gave me something my ass couldn't cash, but I guess I was getting too big for my britches as they said in the past.

But as I grew older and now going through life obstacles, I see now why you gave me all those very important tasks, to get me through life challenges and golden rules.

So with these few words I give to you today, love you, bless you, and Happy Mothers' Day.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not..."

DR. MURIEL PETIONI

"Dr. Muriel Marjorie is remembered by all she served.  Both famous as well as the unknown thousands of patients in the Harlem community of West 131st.  It was the same address her father Dr. Charles Petioni used in the late 1920's.  She began charging $2.00 for an office visit and $3.00 for a home visit.  She earned the name "Mother of Medicine" in Harlem.  No matter what epidemic hit Harlem (heroin, cocaine, crack), Dr. Petioni met the challenges.  Dr. Petioni was among the African American drs given full staff privileges.  Dr. Petioni was born 01/01/1914 in Trinidad and passed at age 97!

And will be missed and remembered by all she touched :-)!"

Man Pledge

By: Chinese Raccoon Dog

Man Pledge

"Prelude
We were born males not men.  We will become men when we learn the art and science of manhood.

Pledge
We vow to work to become men, to leave childhood, boyhood behind us.
We vow to seek knowledge of the best way to relate to ourselves to our Almighty, to our families, and to the community.
We vow to now, to seek answers to, who we were, who we are, and know where we're going.
We vow to be the positive example of manhood, and brotherhood, to be a brother to the community and institutions to which we belong.
We vow to work to make the place where we are better than the way we found it.
We vow to develop ourselves to save lives, not to take lives.
We will provide, protect and secure life.
We will be constructive, not destructive.
We vow to live the seven (R's) of righteousness, respect, responsibility, restraint, reciprocity, rhythm, and redemption."

Untitled

By: The Lucky Starfish

Peace Everybody!

My name is "The Lucky Starfish." I am the newest member of "the zoo," and I came to share some of my ideas about making a better world.  I have never participated in this blog before and I admit, I am a little shy, but once I get started, I will keep it official!

My zodiac sign is Aquarius.  That means I am eccentric. I have a style that is totally all my own and I like to share what I know.  If it is possible, maybe you should use a dictionary if you see me use a word that you're not familiar with.  I like for my descriptions to be descriptive and my specifications to be specific.  It only gets better.

My thoughts are unique and I hope to teach those who are receptive to good advice and basically knowledge itself.  I have the ability to teach a "grown up" as simple as I can teach "a child."  I'm friendly, honest and very patient.  Other than a teacher, the "Lucky Starfish" is a good friend.  So, when I come back, which should be soon, I should have some thought provoking stuff to tell you that you can take and run with for the rest of your life.  I plan on being here for the long run.  Take care and don't forget to look for the "Lucky Starfish."

Peace.

The Zoo

By: The Lucky Starfish

Dear Readers,

I hope by the time that this reaches you that everyone is in the best of health and you are all feeling good about who you are.  I'm doing OK, deep down in the depths of the waters...just going with the flow...if you know what I mean.

Of course, as you may already know, I'm the Lucky Starfish!  I joined "the zoo" not too long ago and I'm back again to explain why I'm so luck. OK?

First of all, No other sea animals caused any harm to my body.  I still have all 5 points of my star-shaped body.  My arm, leg, leg, my other arm and my head.  Sharks and whales don't like me too much but I don't care.  Plus, I'm lucky because I find money and other great stuff down here all the time.  I'm pretty much "laid back" and I observe a lot of action.  If you never wished upon a star, well, maybe you should just take a chance.  It may bring you some luck too!

A 5 pointed star is a very interesting and unique shape.  There are 72 degrees from point to point.  So, 5 x 72 = what? 360 degrees.  That is actually a circle.  There are other significant meanings of the 5 points of a star that I will mention in future writings so, I'm going to apologize now if you think that I am only spoon-feeding you for the time being.  I was just giving you a fun fact for now.

Other than that people, I enjoy reading all kinds of magazines, watching television, I like nature and all kinds of animals and I love to cook all types of food.  so, until next time my friends.  I'm sending you all my respect and admiration from the zoo.  And you can see me at the Aquarium too.  In real life!

So long folks!
