The Zoo
By: Dr Giraff

Dear Readers:

I am Dr. Giraff. Yes! Minus the "E"! I was recommended to write for the "Links Not Chains" blog by  people I truly think highly of. One is my attorney and the other is my social worker.

Upon reading the initial letter from the social work involved in the blog who also works at Bronx Defenders, I immediately came up with the idea.

My idea was to form a writer's group. Yes! A crew of writers who would submit submissions to the blog, but each of us will utilize names of animals as nicknames. We are those creative individuals who are considered by some of society as animals.

Yet via our writings; may they be raps, poetry, short stories, or just drawings and letters, we'll share our inner beings with all those who chose to read; in an attempt to prove we are both: loving plus caring, learnt and creative.

Amongst the ZOO we have been blessed with writings from: The G.O.A.T., The Albino Tiger, The Silver Back Gorilla, myself "Dr. Giraff", and there are more to come. So please: read, enjoy, and remember we TOO are people...

Sincerely,
Dr. Giraff

The Black Lion
By: The Black Lion

I am the Black Lion, strong, cunning, elegant. A natural hunter. The concrete jungle is my territory. I roam it day and night. I watch others in the jungle as they look upon me in fright. Knowing that at any minute I may attack. But today they need not worry for my belly is full, my thirst quenched. Instead, I'm in search of another prey. A mate!! Someone to roam the jungle with, to love and cherish, to protect and raise my litter with. But everyone is afraid of me because in the past I was strictly a hunter, dealing out pain and destruction, hurt and death. I was a product of my environment living off pure instinct. But I'm no longer that feared hunter, instead I'm a gentle beast longing for companionship. A mate!! Someone to share all that I am with. Someone to walk by my side as I travel through the jungle with me head held high. For I am a Black Lion, proud, strong, yet gentle and loving. King of the jungle.
